BLOOM-VERNON
22ND ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR
Residents in the Bloom-Vernon community recently were invited to attend the 22nd Annual Bloom-Vernon Community Health Fair.
According to Rodney Barnett, event coordinator, 45 health related agencies and organizations and four local hospitals, Southern Ohio Medical Center, King’s Daughters, Holzer and Adena participated. Incidentally, this marks the 22nd year in which S.O.M.C. was involved and Adena was welcomed for the first time.
Attendees were able to receive invaluable tests/screens such as E.K.G.’s, blood pressure, cholesterol, bone densities, blood sugars, etc. The high school Key Club also conducted a local blood drive during this event.
Special acknowledgements are extended to the guest speakers. Several classes were the beneficiaries of presenters discussing such topics as abuse, prescription drug abuse, tobacco, etc.. Several Bloom-Vernon Elementary students were given demonstrations and were able to ask questions to staff members from both ABLE and LIFE Ambulance services. Students and staff appreciated the interaction from these dedicated squad members.
Also, for the first time, members of the “Energy Team” under the guidance of Mrs. Erin Howe, used most of the junior high gymnasium to display E3Smart Energy projects and provided information on how to conserve energy. This appeared to be both informative and appreciated.
Area Over 55 Club members were served lunch as a token of appreciation and the school also provided the 115 “exhibitors” with a catered lunch.
